getting into the university of florida?

Dafnie N asked:

i am a little afraid…….. i currently have a 4.63 weighted GPA at my highschool and I’m pretty sure that when UF weighs it, it’ll still be high. BUT, my SAT score is 1180 and I am planning on retaking it, but the applications are due Nov 1 and I won’t be taking the test until November.
I was in Marching band in 9th grade. Key Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters in 10th grade. I’m currently in National Honor Society, and I’m performing in the Cinderella musical as the Fairy Godmother so I’m always there after school for rehearsals. I’m also active in church in the choir and in the praise team. I also volunteer at a nearby church with their choir and I help them organize their events and vocally help their sopranos. I’m also first chair clarinet in my school band and I am the student conductor……
Now I want to go to UF for the business and music program…. sigh, but I’m still worried about my SAT scores…. will they put mine application aside bcuz of my lower scores..?
I haven’t been able to stay in any activities for more than a year because I’ve switched highschools 3 times! So… in case your wondering why I didn’t continue marching band or key club etc..

You have a pretty good chance.

From UF’s website: Entering 2005 Freshman class had an average 4.06 GPA and 1306 SAT score

UF doesn’t just look at SAT scores, they look at the applicants complete academic record and history. UF prefers students that are in the top 10%-15% of their class. Also it depends on the application pool that applies when you do. UF is putting a freeze on the number of freshmen that they allow in due to overcrowding and budget cuts. That also means that there will be less financial aid available to students and UF has already raised tuition and fees for everything, so be sure to apply for financial aid and scholarships as soon as possible.
