I married the loveliest man in the world about 2 months ago and I was the happiest woman in the world on my wedding day. We lucked out on weather for our outdoor ceremony, the officiant did a great job, the caterer was amazing, and the limo ride back to the hotel (and of course the hotel itself!) were the stuff of dreams.

The wedding, however, didn’t make grandma happy at all. She HATED the fact that my stepdad (rather than biodad, her son) walked me down the aisle. To try and compensate, we’d arranged much of the rest of the wedding around her tastes – my groom, who is NOT Jewish, stepped on the glass, for example. The menu, music, and many other details were arranged around her picky tastes – to no effect, since she didn’t get what she really wanted.

I maintain good relations with dad’s side of the family, but dad himself and I don’t always get along so hot. He walked out on our family a long, long time ago, and stepdad has been there for us ever since. On the flip side, we showed respect to biodad. He did get the first dance at my wedding, to say nothing of an invitation extended to himself and his not-so-lovely wife. But dad’s side of the family sat there with their arms crossed the whole darned time while others ate, drank, and made merry.

I went to go visit my grandma 2 weeks after my wedding to try and make her feel better. Usually, a visit puts her right again. But not this time. She immediately started laying into me. The band sucked, the food sucked, the dancing sucked, and, of course, I ****** for doing such a bad job planning. Planning my wedding was a serious undertaking, of course, and I really tried hard. She really made me feel like I blew it. I told her to lay off me but she wouldn’t – then I burst into tears and my husband whisked me off to Key West for a few days for a proper mini-moon. But it’s still bothering me. It’s like she’s partly spoiled the memory of what was supposed to be the happiest day of my life by saying I did everything wrong.

I’ve blocked her from my phone, telling myself it was only temporary until I decided what I wanted to say to her. But honestly, I just don’t want to talk to her at all. We’ve shared a pretty good relationship our whole lives, but I think this is a pretty serious thing, and now that I think about it, she’s been a pain about a lot of other things in my life, especially my career (I’m a PhD doing my postdoc, and she continually asks me when I am going to get a real job). She has never shown any actual respect for me. All she can think about is herself.

I’d like to have a happier memory of my wedding day, and not let the bad things she said spoil everything. My husband and I are very, very happy together. I’ve been putting together my wedding album and that is sort of helping, seeing myself and my husband and everybody else so very happy in those photos. What other things can I do to convince myself that my wedding was a great time and that everybody had fun except for her?

I will be going on college spring break next weekend from Atlanta to Key West in a car with 4 other girls. We plan on taking turns driving, but my friends want to leave 9:00 pm on Friday nonstop so we can get there at 11:00 am Saturday… This just seems like a bad idea to me, does it to you? I feel like we should start driving at 4:00 pm friday, stop at a cheap hotel to sleep around 12 am and wake up around 7 to continue driving and get there around 1 or 2… Which sounds like a better plan? How can I convince them to do this, I just really want to have a safe drive and I’m worried!

On the way from Miami, I’d like to stop at some of the other islands and see some of the attractions. I know I can’t see everything. But, what are some interesting and important things to see on the other islands?

Hey Everyone!
A bunch of my college friends and myself decided to take a roadtrip during our 7 day spring break (I know it’s not a huge amount of time) but anyways I have no idea how/where to go since we’ve never done it before. We are leaving from Orlando, FL and I think we really want to go somewhere either close or far with natural beauty, we are all very outdoorsy. We’re looking to pretty much drive and sleep in the car, maybe get a hotel one night. I would love any ideas or places we should go or stop, I was thinking TN but we’re open to suggestions.If you could please provide any experience or tips it would be awesome as well as suggestions of places! Thank you soo much!!

*I want to emphasize we LIVE in Florida, and most of us have for all of our lives. We’ve done the whole Everglades things and we’re only 40 minutes from Daytona. We would like to somewhere different. Also, we don’t party or drink so Key West is NOT somewhere we could want to go. Thanks!

A husband and wife are traveling by car from Key West to Boston .

After almost twenty-four hours on the road, they’re too tired to
continue, and they decide to stop for a rest.

They stop at a nice hotel and take a room, but they only plan to
sleep for four hours and then get back on the road. When they check
out four hours later, the desk clerk hands them bill for $350.

The man explodes and demands to know why the charge is so high. He
tells the clerk although it’s a nice hotel, the rooms certainly
aren’t worth $350.

When the clerk tells him $350 is the standard rate, the man insists
on speaking to the Manager.

The Manager appears, listens to the man, and then explains that
the hotel has an Olympic-sized pool and a huge conference center
that were available for the husband and wife to use.

But we didn’t use them, the man complains. Well, they are here,
and you could have, explains the Manager. He goes on to explain
they could have taken in one of the shows for which the hotel is
famous. The best entertainers from New York , Hollywood and Las
Vegas perform here, the Manager says.

But we didn’t go to any of those shows, complains the man again.

Well, we have them, and you could have, the Manager replies.

No matter what facility the Manager mentions, the man replies,

But we didn’t use it!

The Manager is unmoved, and eventually the man gives up and agrees
to pay.

He writes a check and gives it to the Manager.

The Manager is surprised when he looks at the check. But Sir, he
says, this check is only made out for $50.

That’s correct, says the man. I charged you $300 for sleeping
with my wife.

But I didn’t! exclaims the Manager.

Well, too bad, the man replies. She was here and you could have.

Three friends I want to go to Florida at the end of March, for spring break. A long weekend, we were thinking March 26th to March 30th. Last May I went to Sarasota for a trip it was about $500, airfare hotel, now I’m looking it’s almost $1,500 per person from NYC to Key West.

I’m far from a trip expert so some tips on how to find the best deal would be greatly appreciated. We don’t care where we go we were all just assuming Florida would be a nice, fun place to visit for cheap. Are there any hidden treasures out there? We’re looking to spend about $800 maximum. Thanks in advance, sorry for such a jumbled mess of questions !
