Cycling in the Florida Keys.
The all year warm weather and water also help the Keys stay a popular holiday maker destination.
As a lifetime cycle rider, Ive discovered that they one thing the Florida Keys dont offer is good cycling. Long distance riders apart from the plain challenges of long-distance riding ( sweat, tears, sunburn ), the Florida Keys arent terribly bike-friendly for the endurance bike rider. There’s a project in progress that wants to cure this situation by adding trails, paths and tutorial kiosks across the keys. Florida roads consist of over eighteen thousand kms of road, of which over two thousand is a component of the interstate road system. This interstate continues from the I-10 from Alabama and starts in Florida at Pensacola, runs thru the Florida Panhandle, thru Tallahassee, into Northern Florida and Lake Town ( where it intersects the I-75 ), before ending in Jacksonville ( where it also meets the I-95 ). From here it travels north along the coast, past Fort Myers, Tampa ( where it intersects the I-4 ), Ocala, Gainesville, Lake Town ( where it intersects the I-10 ) and north into Georgia. The I-95 runs the length of Floridas Atlantic coast. Other major routes The significant U Road one initially began in the 1920s, and at 3,825 km is the longest North-South road in the States.
It starts in Key West in the Florida Keys, runs up the entire east coast of Florida and the eastern seaboard of America all of the way up to Canada. Road one that extends from mainland Florida out along the Florida Keys is named the Overseas Road . Theres actually no reason that each traveler to the Conch Republic ( aka, Key West ) shouldnt spend a while on a cycle.
