Cycling in the Florida Keys.
Fort Lauderdale and Miami are fun except for a chilled change of pace, the Florida Keys is the place to be. The waters around Key Largo are a protected sea park with a particularly healthy fish life and offer the best diving in the US. Key Largo is the 1st city as you enter the Keys after crossing the bridge from the mainland. For more fun, there are 2 dolphin centers, one in Key Largo and another near Marathon where visitors can engage with captive dolphins.
There are sign markers along the main US number one road that mark each mile along the 120 mile route. The view gets better as one heads out more west, particularly near the bridges that connect the islands. Fishing, diving, snorkeling, cruising and truly anything more that involves the sea draws millions of visitors each year. The year-long warm weather and water also help the Keys stay a preferred visitor destination. As a lifetime cycle rider, Ive discovered that they one thing the Florida Keys do not offer is good cycling. For the main part, the more densely-populated Keys are provided with poorly maintained paths or tiny shoulders on the side of the road. However, if risking your life with the less-than-stellar, salty-dog drivers of the Florida Keys appears a little wild, like this sea nirvana from the comfort of your sedan.
Naturally, this has been in the planning stage for ages now and set to be complete at a Florida Keys pace. Theres no simpler way to get familiarised with Key West then to get lost on a bike. The town of Key West at the far end of the Florida Keys is the biggest community in the islands and a stay here for a night or 2 is easily worth it. We selected to leave our automobile at the hotel and use the buses because parking can be limited in the downtown area. A particularly neat way to tour the town is to hire scooters which are common in the streets here.
The seafood is predictably extraordinarily fresh in eateries everywhere in the Florida Keys.
The last city back in America mainland is Florida Town and it has some awfully cheap hotel accommodations with famous chains like Comfort Hotel , Hampton Hotel and Best Western.
